Les Lyons

Highly-successful Senior Sales Leader and Retired Army Officer.

 

With 40+ years of domestic and international experience in sales, operations, client service & general management, Les is a dynamic leader with a proven track record of success. Les is successful in motivating productive, world-class teams in devising strategies and tactics that turn problems into opportunities. He is known for taking a hands-on approach in transforming underperforming business units into client-focused performers.

Les began his career in life insurance at Provident Mutual Life, achieving #1 Campus Agent nationally and setting a company-wide sales record, also achieving the coveted Million Dollar Roundtable status. He then spent 20 years at Xerox as a Sales Rep, Sales Manager, National Accounts Manager, National Manager of Incentive Compensation Planning, Senior Manager of National Sales Operations Planning and District Manager in Hartford, CT.

Les won many sales awards, was consistently in the top 5% of all sales personnel nationally and took the Hartford District from #65 (last place!) to #6 in less than 2 years. Les completed many professional training courses in basic sales, Systems Sales, Strategic Selling, Professional Negotiations, and other sales training, and taught Strategic Selling to the sales organization.

As the Senior Vice President and General Manager of the North Central Division of Danka Office Imaging reporting to the President, Les had full P&L responsibility for $250MM annual revenue, spread over 11 states & 1,300 employees. He took his division from 6th place (last!) to 1st place in 2 years. Later at Market Mile, a high-tech startup, Les was Corporate VP of Sales reporting to the CEO. He created the sales organization and associated infrastructures from scratch, designing and implementing sales processes with a strong focus on consultative selling.

Les attended Texas A&M University and was a member of the Corps of Cadets. He was the #1 Cadet Graduate nationally from Advanced ROTC Summer Camp. He was a Distinguished Military Graduate, earning his B.S. degree in Building Construction and commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in Army Infantry.

He later earned his MBA in Finance with Honors from University of Rochester. As a “citizen/soldier” Les served as an Airborne Infantry Senior Parachutist Officer, attended Pathfinder School and NBC Chemical Officer School. He graduated with Honors from Command & General Staff College, later retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel after serving 28 years. Les’s time in the military commanding hundreds of troops gave him invaluable leadership experience & skills.

Going from Boy Scout, to Eagle Scout, Les also became Scoutmaster w/Wood Badge certification. His many hobbies include skydiving, scuba diving, underwater photography, semi-pro skeet shooting, long-range precision rifle shooting, hunting, camping, horseback riding, playing contract bridge & Texas “42” dominos, woodworking, snow skiing, strength training, yoga and others. He has a daughter, son-in-law & grandson (born on Les’s birthday!) in Texas. Les loves dogs.
